Yakusugi Cedar is a true Japanese living legend.

It has been designated the National Tree of Japan and is found in a natural UNESCO World Heritage Site. The esteemed Yakusugi grows on Yakushima, a tropical island in the far south of Japan. One tree has been carbon-dated to 2,170 years old. And you can own a piece of a Japanese Yakusugi tree as your personalized honko, while supplies last.

Rest assured, The Name of Japan does not use restricted materials, whether wood, horn or anything else. And yes, logging the Yakusugi Cedar is prohibited. The Yakusugi that is currently allowed for use was felled during the Edo period (1603-1868) and is limited only to buried or fallen trees or remaining stumps.

The exact age of the wood stock used in your hanko is unknown, but in all likelihood, it will be by far the oldest thing you will ever own. This fragrant wood is typically light red or reddish brown in color with a prominent, tight grain. Distinctive eye-appeal.

Attractive case and standard ink included with every order. Free shipping.

Supplies of this exceptional wood are limited. Order yours before our stock runs out.
