Kamakura-bori seal is a nationally recognized Japanese craft. The Name of Japan is proud to include this powerhouse carving in our 2024 Spring Exhibition.

The Name of Japan owner, Tsukino Mitsuhiro, explains the mythology behind this design:

"This scene features a dramatic encounter between a bold dragon enveloped in a swirl of turbulence. The dragon gains strength by controlling and mastering the mass of clouds. This ancient tale illustrates how disparate elements can unite in harmony and happiness."

The Kamakura-bori Goshuin seal holds a special place in Japanese culture. "Goshuin" (御朱印) is a Japanese term referring to a unique stamp or seal that visitors to Buddhist Temples and Shinto Shrines can collect.

These stamps are typically obtained by presenting a seal book called a goshuincho to the temple or shrine office. Like a passport, the blank pages of the book are stamped at those venerated sites using the Kamakura-bori. The dragon-and-clouds design is an exceptional example of such a seal.

The Kamakura-bori currently being featured in our 2024 Spring Exhibition presents both the dragon and clouds image along with a space for your name in Japanese characters or other Zen words in Kanji characters. Your choice. Either way, your Kamakura-bori Goshuin seal will be your treasure for a lifetime.

Attractive case and standard ink included with every order. Free shipping.
